Pawprints
Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 2026
The short version: Pawprints collects nothing. There is no account, no server, and no tracking. Your dog's profile, journal, photos, and care log stay on your iPhone. Optional backups go to your own iCloud Drive, encrypted with a password only you know.
Overview
Pawprints is a private journal and daily care log for your dog, built entirely with Apple frameworks and no third-party code. This policy explains what the app does — and does not do — with your information.
Pawprints does not collect personal data, has no developer-operated server, and includes no analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. The developer cannot see your data.
Data We Do Not Collect
- No account registration or sign-in
- No analytics or usage tracking
- No advertising identifiers or ad networks
- No crash reporting sent to any third-party service
- No data sold or shared with anyone
Data Stored on Your Device
Everything you create in Pawprints is stored locally on your iPhone using Apple's on-device storage:
- Dog profiles — name, breed, birthday, gender, allergies, medications, conditions, microchip ID, and vet details
- Journal entries — photos, captions, notes, milestones, and optional locations
- Daily care log — feeds, walks, weight, medicine, symptoms, vet visits, and your custom activities
- Photos — images you add from your photo library
- App preferences — theme, accent colour, and reminder settings
This data never leaves your device unless you choose to create a backup.
Backups (Your iCloud Drive)
Pawprints can create an encrypted backup of your data and save it to your own iCloud Drive using Apple's native document storage. This backup is:
- Sealed with a password you set, using on-device encryption (Apple's CryptoKit)
- Stored only in your personal iCloud account — Pawprints operates no server and never receives a copy
- Impossible for the developer to read or recover — if you lose the password, the backup cannot be restored by anyone
Permissions Pawprints May Request
- Photo Library — to add photos to journal entries and your dog's profile, using Apple's photo picker. Pawprints only accesses the photos you select.
- Location (When In Use) — only if you choose to tag a journal entry's location or set your vet's location. Locations are stored with your entries on-device.
- Notifications — only if you opt in to annual birthday reminders. These are local notifications scheduled on your device.
Each permission is optional. The app remains fully functional if you decline.
In-App Purchases
Pawprints offers optional one-time tips to support development. Purchases are handled entirely by Apple's StoreKit; the developer receives only a verified transaction confirmation from Apple and never sees your payment details. No features are locked behind any purchase.
Children's Privacy
Pawprints does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children. Because no data is collected or transmitted, the app is suitable for all ages.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a revised date. Material changes may also be noted in the app's release notes.
